Airplane!

Megan has recently taken a big interest in airplanes. If she hears a plane fly overhead, she looks up, points to the sky, and says, "Airplane, airplane!" So we thought she might enjoy going to the RDU airport observation deck to see the planes take off and land. We went Thursday afternoon which turned out to be a good, though hot, day to see some planes.

There's also a small playground at the observation deck and a kid-sized landing strip. Megan had fun playing in the sand at the playground almost as much as she liked seeing the planes.

Feeding the Ducks

A few Saturdays ago, we got up and went to Duke Gardens to feed the ducks. Megan liked throwing the bread at the ducks, and even tried to nibble on a piece herself, too!

18-month Updates

Megan is now 18 months old, and recently went to the pediatrician for her 18-month appointment. She checked out really well and did much better with the doctor at this visit than her last. Megan weighed in at 24 lbs 4 oz (60th percentile); her height is 33 inches (88th percentile); and her head circumference is 45.9 cm (30th percentile).

She also had two shots: DTaP and Hib. She seemed to do really well with these shots, and had a lot of fun playing with the band-aids afterwards.

Megan has also started attending a new Parents Morning Out program at a local Lutheran church where Brian and I sometimes attend. Megan goes to the PMO 1 day a week for 3 hours. This gives her a chance to socialize with kids without Mom around, and it gives me a chance to get some things done that I can't always do with Megan in tow. I'll admit that it was really hard to leave her the first time, but Megan has seemed to really enjoy the PMO - especially the arts and crafts, and although it's weird not having Megan around, I'm enjoying my few hours of "me-time" each week - Even if I am doing housework!!

Albemarle Visit

Last week, Megan and I took off down to Albemarle for a few days. As usual, we brought the rain with us, so much of our trip was spent indoors. But despite the cool and rainy weather, we had a fantastic trip and got to spend some good, quality time with Granddaddy and Grandmommy (and Bailey and Tigger, too!)

Down by the River

This afternoon, Megan and I went to the Eno River. We saw birds, fish and lizards, and took a long walk along the river and across a really neat bridge.

Beth's Wedding Weekend

The weekend of August 29 was very special for our family -- my sister Beth got married! We spent the weekend at Lake Norman for all the festivities.

It was a great weekend: I got spend time with "the girls" on Friday while Megan hung out with Dad - pretty much all day! I got my first ever pedicure and I confess, I may now be addicted to them (or at least the part where they massage your legs!). The only rough part of the weekend was that I got sick before the wedding and ended up losing my voice the day of the wedding. =(

Friday night, before the wedding, we had a dinner cruise on the Lady of the Lake. The weather didn't fully cooperate and an evening thunderstorm rained on the party - but we had a fun time anyway.

Beth and Kenny were married on Saturday under a huge covered porch with Lake Norman as the backdrop. It was beautiful, and since I had an up-close view of the bride and groom, I can tell you that they were glowing throughout the ceremony. Afterwards, we ate, partied and danced until Little Megan had to go to bed. (She held out until after 10pm!!)

Congratulations to Beth and Kenny!

And what wedding weekend isn't complete without a visit from the local fire department? The hotel laundry room had a small fire during breakfast and we all had to evacuate:

There are more pictures of the wedding weekend on our photo page. If you do look through the pictures, you'll see that I didn't get any good pictures of the Beth and Kenny at the actual wedding. If anyone who reads this blog was there and did get a good shot or two, send them my way and I'll post them! Thanks!
